The Mecanum wheel is a design that can move in any direction. It is sometimes called the iron wheel after its Swedish inventor, Bengt Ilon. This wheel contains a series of rollers with axes of rotation at 45° to the plane of the wheel, attached to its circumference in a plane parallel to its axis of rotation.
